This is a big step in the right direction, and we couldn’t be happier about the progression of Cannabis Legislation throughout the country. Keep reading below for a rundown on the regulations in these newly cannabis-friendly states.Legalization in Arizona
- 4 years after Arizona’s failed 2016 legalization measure, voters have finally passed a bill to legalize recreation cannabis for adult use.
- Although a legalization start date is still up in the air, Arizona residents are looking forward to a date, likely in 2021, to be announced.
Legalization in Montana
- Montana voters approved an adult use measure, with the legal age set to 21+
- Residents of Montana will now be able to grow, use, and possess marijuana starting January 1, 2021.
- Recreational marijuana sales will begin 1 year after in January 2021.
Legalization in Mississippi
- In Mississippi, voters have now approved a ballot measure to approve the medical use and sale of marijuana.
- Mississippi established a deadline of July 1, 2021 to set up state regulations regarding medical marijuana use.
Legalization in New Jersey
- Voters in New Jersey have approved legislation for adult use cannabis for residents over the age of 21.
- New Jersey legislature will have until the effective start-date of recreation use on January 1, 2021.
Legalization in South Dakota
- Residents of South Dakota have voted in favor of both Medical and Recreational marijuana sales.
- Medical sales will begin July 1, 2021.
- Lining up with the July 1, 2021 start date is a measure that allows residents to grow up to three plants at a time.
- The state legislature has until April 1, 2021 to set up rules and regulations for the possession and sale of marijuana.
- Recreational sales are set to begin in July, 2021.
